Star Clippers Eco-Aware Cruise to Costa Rica with David Bellamy
December 2011
Star Clippers approached Tree Appeal to invite our patron David Bellamy to be their celebrity guest aboard their Star Flyer Clipper, the tallest tall ship in the world, to cruise the coast of Costa Rica. Star Clippers is a company that pioneers eco-tourism. Many of ecosystems in which their nature excursions take place are directly dependent on trees so they decided to highlight the David Bellamy tour with support for Tree Appeal.
Although the guests on the David Bellamy tour were from the UK, Star Clippers is a global travel company. It was decided that the Tree Twinning initiative was most appropriate. Tree Twinning involves the planting of a tree in a UK school and its ‘twin’ in Africa. Tree Appeal plants trees for their biodiversity, educational and other humanitarian benefits and in so doing we are able to help environmentally caring companies reduce their ecological footprint.
A total of 200 trees have now been planted; 100 in UK schools and 100 in Africa where they not only play a role in biodiversity they also help prevent soil erosion and assist in the delivery of important agri-forestry projects which are critical in helping poor farmers become self-sufficient.
