Professor Sir Ivor Crewe plants the first tree

The University of Essex celebrated the official launch of the International Academy in August 2007, along with the start of a major new environmental campaign at the Colchester campus.

Essex is one of the most international universities in the UK with over a third of students from overseas and more than 130 countries represented on campus. The International Academy plays a key role in providing language support to these students before and during their studies.

The International Academy brings together all the teaching services and programmes which the University has developed for its international students. As well as innovative 4-year degrees with a 3-year accelerated option, the Academy runs a foundation Bridging Year and a range of Graduate Diplomas which provide entry to many Masters degrees. The Academy also offers TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificates, Diplomas and Masters degrees which can be studied full-time over one year or part-time over four years.

The International Academy has teamed up with Tree Appeal to offset the impact that hundreds of students taking long-haul flights might be having on the environment. Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Ivor Crewe planted the first tree as part of an effort to offset these flights to Essex at the launch on 31 August.

We have some of the best ways for international students to enter higher education in the UK, offering a range of schemes to suit all abilities.'
