The University of Essex’s academic rankings and international outlook ensure the University is both well known and respected around the world. Essex has always welcomed students from overseas ensuring a thriving international community for our students. Currently 40% of Essex students come from outside the UK, from over 120 different countries worldwide.
Essex’s International Academy, concerned for the environmental footprint of their students, have teamed up with Tree Appeal to try and balance their impact upon the natural world.
By planting a tree for each incoming student, the International Academy will be able to give back to the environment – replacing lost woodland, providing habitat, supporting biodiversity and offsetting emissions – and encourage students to consider their own environmental footprint for the future.

The International Academy plants a tree for every student arriving at Essex by long-haul flight

Students receive a certificate and information about how their journey has been offset and how to organise this for themselves for their own travel.
