Tim Hooton - Green Pioneer!

Manager of the Holiday Inn Washington, Tim Hooton, was awarded the title of Green Pioneer 2009 at a prestigious ceremony onboard the Royal Yacht Britannia.

As General Manager of the Holiday Inn, Washington, Tim is leading the way on corporate responsibility for the hospitality industry. Seeking a way for members of the public to be able to give back to the environment when away from home, Tim teamed up with Tree Appeal to launch a new initiative. Now hotel guests can choose to upgrade to a ‘Go Green’ room at Holiday Inn Washington, and a tree will be planted on their behalf.
Businesses and other organisations can also contribute to the environment and balance the impact of their conferences with ‘Go Green’ conferences, planting a tree for each delegate.
Tim has also taken steps to ensure that the example is set in the hotel’s grounds, establishing a wildlife area on the nine-acre site, into which ‘Go Green’ guests can choose to plant their tree.
Acknowledging the importance of education in protecting the environment, Tim invited local schoolchildren to plant the first new trees, which will create a woodland habitat for local wildlife, promoting biodiversity in the area.
