Planting a tree in a UK school and its twin in Africa.
The first anniversary of Family's ethical Child Trust Fund (CTF) was celebrated with the planting of more than 1,500 trees in the grounds of Dorothy Stringer School in Brighton.
Family Investments have planted trees at schools across the country, including:
Dorothy Stringer School, Brighton, Our Lady and St Bede RC School, Fairfield, Ystruth Primary School, Blaenau Gwent, Sneinton CofE Primary, Nottingham, West London Academy, Northolt, Glenalmond College, Perth, Hatfield Manor CofE Junior, Doncaster, Malmesbury School, Wiltshire, Hilton Primary School, Derby
Grove CofE Primary, Oxford, Rowdeford School, Swindon, Beecroft Primary School, Leeds, Birdham CofE Primary School, West Sussex, Ysgol Gymuned Rhosybol, Llandudno and The Knights Templar School, Stevenage
They have also contributed to important biodiversity plantings at The Science Museum, Wroughton and Chapel Hill Woodland, Guisborough
Every school that receives trees from Family Investments becomes a School on the Wildside. They have their own pages on the Tree Appeal web site and will have access to unique downloadable materials and resources, all completely free of charge.

Tree Planting gets children involved and helps create a wonderful learning resource
We want to encourage schools to make the most of their grounds by planting trees. This helps create woodland habitat, increases biodiversity and, most importantly, provides an excellent learning resource - planting the trees, watching them grow, seeing how wildlife is encouraged, charting the changing seasons and weather.

As patron of Tree Appeal and life-long campaigner for the environment, David Bellamy joined the children at Dorothy Stringer School in Brighton to celebrate those parents who chose to have a tree planted when they opened their child’s ethical CTF. By planting the trees, the children will learn that similar to saving money, making small changes to your everyday lifestyle can have a measurable, long-term impact.

Miles Bingham, Marketing Director at Family Investments, said, "In its first year, Family’s ethical CTF has already proved a growing success. Response has not only been strong, but parents are proactively topping-up their child’s CTF on a more regular basis - creating a long-term investment for their children that does not come at the cost of the planet."

What is Trees for Schools?
The Trees for Schools initiative promotes habitat creation and biodiversity and has the added social benefit of giving children environmental education and an appreciation for our valuable planet.

What is Tree Twinning?
With Tree Twinning every tree planted in the UK is matched with another in Africa. Your first 'twin' tree is planted in one of our UK schools for all the environmental, biodiversity and social benefits that Tree Appeal champions. Your other 'twin' is planted by one of our charity partners, giving some of the poorest communities in the world the resources they need to fight poverty and become self reliant.
Computers for Africa
Every hundred trees planted in UK schools sponsors the shipping of a refurbished computer to a school in Africa. These computers are provided and delivered to Africa through Computer Aid International, an organisation that offers products and support to developing countries.
The constant replacement of technology in Western society means that perfectly functioning computers are very quickly becoming obsolete but these redundant computers make a life changing addition to African communities. Each computer gives approximately one hundred underprivileged children an invaluable grounding in computer skills, empowering them for the future.
By becoming involved in this scheme, Family Investments are making a significant difference to the lives of these African children, as well as dramatically extending the life of redundant PCs.

Family’s ethical Child Trust Fund
Family Investments is a friendly society that specialises in the family savings and investment market. Their Ethical Child Trust Fund is the only actively managed ethical stakeholder Child Trust Fund account currently available in the market (as at December 2007).
The popularity of Family’s ethical Child Trust Fund (CTF) shows that eco-conscious parents are just as concerned about the long-term sustainability of the planet as they are about their child’s financial future. One year from launch, thousands of parents have already opened Family’s ethical CTF - of which 60 per cent are already dedicated to topping-up on a monthly basis. According to HMRC, however, only 23 per cent of parents with normal stakeholder CTF accounts top them up on a regular basis.
Family Investments is a trading name of Family Equity Plan Limited (Co. No. 2208249), which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority. Family Equity Plan Limited's FSA register number is 122351. Registered Office: 16-17 West Street, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 2RL.
Family's Ethical CTF account invests in shares, so its value can fall as well as rise and your child may receive back less than was been paid in. Once the money has been paid into the account only the child can access it and only when they reach 18.
