Planting day at Brookside Community Primary School, Street

April 2010

Brookside is an inclusive and happy school and there are always lots of exciting things happening there! At the moment the school is in the middle of a wonderful building project so things are changing fast.

At the beginning of April there was a special planting day when representatives from Shield Environmental, who sponsored the trees, helped the children to get the saplings in the ground. These trees will be an important element in Brookside's new Woodland Walk and Wildlife Garden, helping to support their Forest School activities.

As well as planting trees, Brookside School have also built some raised flower beds, dug out a pond and re-planted their existing bulbs. The teachers and pupils, as well as their families, have worked hard to make their school grounds a fantastic place to be and have proved they aren’t afraid of getting wet and muddy!

As they grow, the sponsored saplings will act as a brilliant learning resource. They will provide an outdoor classroom where the children can surround themselves with our valuable biodiversity and learn all about the birds, mammals and insects that will inhabit the trees. By sponsoring the trees, Shield have shown they are committed to environmental education – growing both trees and minds. The representatives who attended the planting were thrilled to get involved and can see that their sponsored trees have been given an ideal new home.
