Planting day at Ysgol y Castell, Kidwelly

November 2009

It was the Ysgol y Castell Pupil Eco Council that called the shots when Tree Appeal patron David Bellamy came to plant some new trees, as they unanimously decided upon using the trees to create a quiet shady area for the summer.

Professor Bellamy was not just planting new trees at the school but brought along Tree Appeal partners Principality, and their mascot Dylan the Dragon, to show them how their sponsorship had made a difference to the school grounds. Principality teamed up with Tree Appeal to plant trees in schools across Wales as part of their commitment to environment and education.

After planting the trees, Professor Bellamy went into the classroom to share his knowledge of the natural world with Dylan the Dragon and the pupils of Ysgol y Castell.

‘It was the most amazing experience for everyone,’ commented headteacher Jane Wareham. ‘And Professor Bellamy has the most wonderful rapport with children; he spoke to them about everything from trees and leaves to nettles, to rainforests and worms. Enormous thanks to Principality for their generosity in providing over one hundred trees, and for providing this learning opportunity for the children and staff.’
