"Thank you for buying a Smart Tie"

I’m passionate about trees!
In my lifetime, I have helped to save woodlands and forests by planting trees all over the world – Iceland, New Zealand, Africa, Asia, Australia, Borneo, Brunei, India, Fiji and many more.
But, working with Tree Appeal, I get to plant trees at home! Here we can promote our own valuable biodiversity. We also plant lots of trees in schools, where we not only grow trees, but grow minds.
I would like to say a big thank you for your smart choice in joining the Smart Tie club – smart for you, smart for the planet.
Professor David Bellamy, OBE

What does Tree Appeal do?

Tree Appeal plants trees to promote biodiversity, create habitats and improve the environment for people.

Why plant trees?

A tree is the basic building block for much of our environment. Trees provide woodland habitats for a wide range of plants, bugs, birds and many other animals. Biodiversity is the variation of life in a particular area, or ecosystem. The plants, insects, birds and animals that live in the same habitat are all dependent on each other for their existence. The failure of one species will have a detrimental effect on others, and that includes us.

Where are the trees planted?

Tree Appeal plants trees throughout the UK in lots of different settings. Nature reserves, hedgerows, dedicated woodland and parks. Many of our trees are planted in schools and colleges as part of our Trees for Schools initiative - growing trees, growing minds.

Can I visit my tree?

Sorry, no. Because Tree Appeal plants trees on private land, in many cases on school property, there are difficulties with access. We are not able to give you permission to visit these properties, but you will know exactly where your tree is.

What sort of trees are they?

Tree Appeal only plants native broad leaf trees such as oak, beech and ash. These are the species which are known to best promote biodiversity.

When are the trees planted?

Most of our trees are planted during the planting season which typically runs from November to March. The saplings must be dormant when they are planted to give them the best start.
