Planting day at Abbey Junior School, Darlington
October 2009
World renowned botanist and TV presenter David Bellamy helped the children of a Darlington school to plant 90 trees on behalf of a well known local business.
To celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Cummins Limited, the famous engine maker sponsored the planting of the trees at Abbey Junior. David Bellamy, in his role as patron of Tree Appeal, joined pupils in a mass planting session at the school.
Cummins became the Tree Appeal’s very first corporate partner in 2005, when they marked the 40th anniversary of the Darlington factory with 40 trees planted in the town. Representatives from Cummins joined the Tree Appeal team at Abbey Junior School to once again lend a hand with the planting.
Ken Whitley, Managing Director of Tree Appeal, said, “It is the commitment and enthusiasm of companies like Cummins that help us to make the world a greener place. With their sponsorship of these trees, Cummins are giving back to the environment and to the community, and contributing to education in County Durham.”
