Fit Out UK planting day at Athelstan Primary, SheffieldPlanting day at Athelstan Primary School, Sheffield

October 2021

Athelstan Primary School in Sheffield was visited by representatives of Fit Out UK to help plant trees in the school grounds. Year 5 children, staff and representatives of Fit Out UK planted the saplings to create wildlife habitats and encourage biodiversity.

“At Fit Out we take our carbon footprint seriously and we are here today at Athelstan Primary to plant 150 trees in association with Carbon Footprint and Tree Appeal.” - Jamie Mason, Director, Fit Out UK

The trees were all native British species, grown in the UK and included Wild Cherry, Downy Birch, Hazel, Rowan and Hawthorn. These new saplings will provide a perfect habitat for wildlife, promoting biodiversity and preserving the natural environment. The children gained hands-on experience of how trees are planted and learned how important trees are to the world in which we live.

Fit Out UK has teamed up with Carbon Footprint as part of their carbon management programme and with Tree Appeal, planting native broadleaf trees in schools.

Fit Out UK is sponsoring the planting of more than 150 trees at Athelstan Primary, demonstrating their commitment to environmental education and their aim of reducing their impact on the natural world.

“Outdoor learning has had a major impact on our children's emotional wellbeing, especially after Covid, so days like today are realy important. The ninety Year 5s that have been out here today have really enjoyed it, we've seen smiles on their faces and it's a great way for them to socially interact with each other outside the classroom” - Rosie Flack, Year 5 Teacher and KS2 Outdoor Learning Lead.
