Planting day at East Ardsley Primary Academy, Wakefield
March 2024
East Ardsley Primary Academy was visited by representatives of thebigword to help plant trees in the school grounds. Pupils, staff and representatives of thebigword planted the saplings to create wildlife habitats and encourage biodiversity.
“We've had a great day so far, getting our hands dirty - It's been really rewarding to help the children plant the trees - they've all had a great day!”
- Kerry Mahon - CSR Committee, thebigword
The trees are all native British species, grown in the UK and include Crab Apple, Hazel, Silver Birch and Rowan. These new saplings will provide a perfect habitat for wildlife, promoting biodiversity and preserving the natural environment. The children gained hands-on experience of how trees are planted and learned how important trees are to the world in which we live.
“We are very proud of our forest school which we use all the time as part of the children's outdoor learning experience... We've been very fortunate that thebigword has sponsored us today and we've got sixty new trees to add to our forest school to make it even better.”
- Sarah Talbot - Principal, East Ardsley Primary Academy
thebigword has teamed up with Carbon Footprint as part of their carbon management programme and with Tree Appeal, planting native broadleaf trees in schools. thebigword is sponsoring the planting of 60 trees at East Ardsley, demonstrating their commitment to environmental education and their aim of reducing their impact on the natural world.
