Mansfield Pollard planting day at Oastlers School, KeighleyPlanting day at Oastlers School, Keighley with Mansfield Pollard

March 2025

Representatives of Mansfield Pollard joined Tree Appeal at Oastlers School to help the students plant 250 broadleaf trees.

“We're here at the Oastlers School in Keighley and it's a really great day. We've been associated with Carbon Footprint for about five years and the school for a similar amount of time. We've been a manufacturer for nearly one hundred and sixty years so looking at our carbon offsetting, looking at our sustainability and looking at the footprint that we leave behind is really important, particularly given the longevity of the business.

So, when we brought Carbon Footprint on board, it was important that we didn't just look at practices for the business and becoming carbon neutral, but actually looked at carbon negativity. As a business, we offset twice the amount of carbon that we emit annually through a variety of different projects. And the tree planting project that we're doing here today is very important. ”

Lou Ellis-Frankland - CEO, Mansfield Pollard

The trees were all native British species, grown in the UK and included Alder, Blackthorn, Whitebeam, Hazel, Dogwood and Crab Apple. These new saplings will provide a perfect habitat for wildlife, promoting biodiversity and preserving the natural environment.

“We've had a fantastic morning. Our friend Lou Ellis-Frankland from Mansfield Pollard contacted us a few months ago and asked if we would be interested in planting a few trees. Lo and behold today has happened, we've got 250 young saplings to plant, it's been a fantastic day for the young people in Oastlers, absolutely superb that everybody's taking part and contributing. We've got saplings all over the place across the grounds, these are going to flourish into big trees over the years to come. What a great day for all the young people, looking forward to seeing how the trees develop just as we're looking forward to seeing how all the young people develop as well over the years that they're in Oastlers with us. ”
Robert Fairbairn - Head of Centre, Oastlers School, Keighley

The students and the Mansfield Pollard team gained hands-on experience of how trees are planted and learned how important trees are to the world in which we live.

“Yeah, it's really important - We are an eco-school, so it's nice to be able to add to the area and create a better biodiversity, get the kids to learn about what to do and also use the resources of the hazel and everything for some of our forest school sessions so that we can learn and grow. ”
Rachael McIntyre - Forest School Lead, Oastlers School, Keighley
